Another one(mph)...

In terms of today's blog post, it’s actually focused on yesterdays stack session (didn’t have time to post yesterday) it was a four set routine, with 8 reps at 220g, 8 reps at 125g, 8 reps at 95g, all of which were full swing effort (the most effort you’d put in on course), followed by a 4 rep set at 195g swinging with max effort (swinging out of my boots).

Once again I had PB’s in the first three sets, with 87 and an 88 in the first, 98 in the second set and 102 in the third. It was the first time swinging at max and I was feeling a little slower at this point if I’m honest but did manage to have a 90 and three 89’s...

Overall it means I’ve gained one more 1mph too, taking me up to 94mph eSpeed, whilst giving me a distance potential of 259 yards.

I’m seeing the speed gains translate into my actual swing too, as I completed this stack session as part of a range session. I’ve also finally acquired a shaft for the Cobra Radspeed XB head I bought some time ago (a Fujikura Ventus 6S - not a velocore, yet) and the launch is phenomenal.

I’ve never been able to launch the driver at that sort of height in the past, even with my old Cobra driver, which was also set at 10.5 degrees. TopTracer was suggesting an average peak height of 65-70ft, whereas my old flight window was between 35-40ft.

To be honest with this head and shaft combo I’m probably going to have to nudge it down to 9 degrees and deal with the face angle shift that creates. However, I do still have my G425 Max, having not sold it on eBay yet, so I could try that back-to-back with it too.

I know it’s only another 1mph overall as a gain from the stack but I’m now at a 10mph / 29 yard gain in just four sessions in the foundation program…

Let’s keep at it…

The journey so far...

Welcome to my blog, a place that I'll use to collect all of my thoughts and explain my golfing journey. So, let's start at the beginning - I'm Matt and I'm a golfaholic BUT whilst I'm hooked this time around (excuse the pun), the same can't be said for when I played golf in my formative years. And, to that end I believe I picked up my first golf club around the age of 7, when my Dad took the family to the driving range so he could practice his own game. I don't remember much about my golf in between then and my teenage years but I do know that I took lessons when I was around 12 and began playing a little too. The problem was, I liked it but I didn't love it. There were other things in my life that I felt deserved my time, including football and school and so I can't say that I ever really gave it my all. I can also confirm that club technology has improved dramatically in the twenty or so years since I last played, which was late in my teens, as bac...

Break 80 is back...

It's been a while since I've posted on my YouTube channel, given the challenges posed by filming in windy conditions on a links style course. However, a few weeks ago I armed myself with the camera's and did just that, whilst also trying my arm at some on course commentary too.  Let me know what you think of this style of video, as I'm thinking it might be the way forward and already have a lapel style mic setup for future efforts, rather than having to talk into the phone off camera. It's also worth bearing in mind that since my last video I've taken nearly 3 shots off my handicap 14.6 > 11.9 which bodes well for when the weather improves...

Cruising speed

Stack session 14 was the last in phase 3 of the program and saw the use of 240g, 80g and 195g all at max intent. The two 90mph speeds either side of the 93 and 94mph swings in the 195g set didn't see me push the needle in terms of overall gains but, there were gains on the 240g and 80g sets. Not only was this visible in the reps, with a 88mph and 105mph respectively, the set averages were up to 87mph and 104mph, both of which were significant gains. I've noticed that if I become a little more mobile (small jumps up and down on the spot) as the rest period comes to a close before starting a new set I can get moving more quickly. This along with constantly trying to widen my backswing arc without swaying too much off centre seems to be providing a recipe for improvement. And, whilst I've said it before, the gains aren't just showing up in stack sessions, I'm definitely longer off the tee. Now, some of this comes down to course conditions improving but, most of it is...
