Back in business...

So, I had to take another break from Stacking as I was away for a few days and decided to use the return to form option once again, just to ease back into things. The thing with the return to form session compared with the current phase of the full speed spectrum program is that the swings are full speed, rather than max, meaning they're going to come off as a little slower and that's ok with me.

Dipping just below 100mph out the gates, essentially at on course speed is fine with me, as it still gives me a distance potential north of 260 yards.

Anyway, a couple of days later and it was time to get back into the swing of things, fully and it wasn't a bad session by any means, I just didn't feel like I was ever going to reach out and touch the absolute top numbers and again, that's fine, sometimes you just aren't going to be at your best.

Two more days followed and it was time for session 8 in the program - same drill, five sets all at max, with the exception of set 4 which is a step drill.

As you can see from the fourth column, even though I didn't feel like I was at my max I still set some records, with an 89mph on the 225g, a 101mph on the 105g step drill (which actually felt mega fast for some reason) and then a set record with the 195g at 94mph.

The 195g (for those that don't know) is the benchmark for the eSpeed and so that pushes me up to 103mph with driver and a distance potential of 287 yards.

Luck would have it, I also played the other day and once again shot a sub 80 round but what was more noticeable was how good I was off the tee, even given how windy it was. Hole 12 and 13 had a little help but it was a 45 degree wind off my left shoulder, which means with my draw I was technically holding it into the wind.

Anyway, drive off 12 was great. And, if 240 seems short, well it's not, because, well, the slope probably adds 25-30 yards I'd imagine. But, what was even better was when I got to the ball I looked toward the green in the distance and felt like I could make it, if I caught one well. 244 yards to the centre with slope gaining me about 10-15 yards (possibly) but, even so it was a great hit and it felt like one. In fact, I'd go as far to say it's probably one of the greatest shots I've hit (until this point).

I missed the eagle putt by an inch to the right but a tap-in birdie is always welcome.

I followed this up with a big bomb off thirteen too, albeit with it dribbling into the bunker but, once again this is the closest I've come to driving the green on this par 4, so I'm more than happy with the drive.

Big things are coming this summer, especially as I've found a couple of swing related nuggets recently, so I'm super excited to see where my game is in the next few months.

The journey so far...

Welcome to my blog, a place that I'll use to collect all of my thoughts and explain my golfing journey. So, let's start at the beginning - I'm Matt and I'm a golfaholic BUT whilst I'm hooked this time around (excuse the pun), the same can't be said for when I played golf in my formative years. And, to that end I believe I picked up my first golf club around the age of 7, when my Dad took the family to the driving range so he could practice his own game. I don't remember much about my golf in between then and my teenage years but I do know that I took lessons when I was around 12 and began playing a little too. The problem was, I liked it but I didn't love it. There were other things in my life that I felt deserved my time, including football and school and so I can't say that I ever really gave it my all. I can also confirm that club technology has improved dramatically in the twenty or so years since I last played, which was late in my teens, as bac...

Stacking and golfing

Yesterday I opted to pair my stack training with a round of golf, with the stack session done before heading out for 18. Now, this is something I'm probably going to have to evaluate that going forward as it does put my body under a lot of stress heading into the round, meaning I'll likely do it the other way around next time out to see the cause and effect. In terms of the stack session it was another good one and another where I found another 1mph, taking me up to 12mph overall in the first six sessions of the foundation program. I know I'm moving the needle too as I feel like I'm stretching various muscles in my body I'd never previously considered as a factor. The great thing about the stack app is the motivation it provides during the session too as you look to swing harder and faster with every backswing and follow through. The notification and auditory message you receive when beating a record, such as the set record, shown in the bottom left, just makes you ...

Still more to come...

Last session in the full speed spectrum program was a bit of a disappointment if I'm being honest, as I was pretty far from my best and should have completed it the following day, rather than after a round of golf. However, what it does prove, in my opinion, is that even when I'm not 'on it' I'm still considerably faster than I used to be and that results in me being able to get it out there that bit further. As you can see in the program summary, my peak eSpeed was set in session 23 at 109mph with a distance potential of 303 yards achieved, whilst my quickest swing also came during that set, with a 110mph and 307 yard potential. A few days later I completed the progress check and once again I wasn't at full tilt but still close to my potential with a 96mph Stack / 105mph eSpeed which equates to 292mph. A couple of things worth noting are that I completed the driver swing during that session with the mini driver, not my actual driver, so there's going to b...
