Back with a bang...

It had been over a week since the last time I partook in a Stack session, owing to some time away with family. But, that's not an issue with the Stack app as it carefully plots your course towards hitting big bombs...

Arriving at the course to complete what I thought was going to be the fourth session in the full speed spectrum program I was greeted by a message from the app, asking me whether I'd like to complete a special, return to form session. Given that the fourth session was the first in a new phase I figured it might be helpful if I didn't leap right back in, especially as I wasn't at 100% health / energy that day.

The return to form program was a three set session, with the 195g, 240g and 145g weights all at full swing (on course speed). I was relatively pleased with the numbers I posted, even if they were a little adrift of my maximums during phase 1, as I felt like this was simply a bridge that I'd needed to cross before getting back on the horse.

Two days further down the line and I was ready to get back into the swing of things (😏) and new I had my work cut out for me as aside from the step drill swing in set 4, all of the other sets were at max swing speed.

Not to worry though as I smashed each set out of the park, with a PB on the 240g weight and a set record to boot (both of which beat my speeds in the foundation program too, as I've checked back). Meanwhile, the 195g, which for all intents and purposes is the most important set, given it sets the benchmarks for driver eSpeed saw me nudge the bar a little higher in two respects.

Firstly, my top speed was a 96mph swing, which as you can see = 293 yards in distance potential, whilst the set average was 93mph which is my highest in this program and equates to 102mph and 283 yards distance potential.

We keep moving forward and there's a lot more to come!..

The journey so far...

Welcome to my blog, a place that I'll use to collect all of my thoughts and explain my golfing journey. So, let's start at the beginning - I'm Matt and I'm a golfaholic BUT whilst I'm hooked this time around (excuse the pun), the same can't be said for when I played golf in my formative years. And, to that end I believe I picked up my first golf club around the age of 7, when my Dad took the family to the driving range so he could practice his own game. I don't remember much about my golf in between then and my teenage years but I do know that I took lessons when I was around 12 and began playing a little too. The problem was, I liked it but I didn't love it. There were other things in my life that I felt deserved my time, including football and school and so I can't say that I ever really gave it my all. I can also confirm that club technology has improved dramatically in the twenty or so years since I last played, which was late in my teens, as bac...

Hanging in there...

Not quite up there with the big ole 97mph that I recorded a few sessions ago but I'm still hanging on in there with the 195g with a 95mph average which equates to 290 yard distance potential. However, once again, perhaps it's not all about that driver equivalent number, rather it's about improving on the other weights too, which is precisely what I did in session 15. There was also a couple of other things to consider for this session too, as I started the day with a migraine, which is never good and when I got to the course, the bay I use was sopping wet, as we've had a lot of rain over the last few days. Anyway, I had my grippier wet weather shoes on so I tried to act like it wasn't going to bother me. Over to the records for the session and the first came with the 65g with the step movement and it was a huge gain on the previous best, which I set in session 12, with a 7mph improvement from 101mph to 107mph. The average has also jumped significantly, with a set ...

Absolutely Stacked

We all know that we’re slowing down as we’re getting older but as someone who took up golf again in their 40’s I already knew I wasn’t swinging as quickly as I could. Of course many accept this decline in speed and resultant loss in yardage in their stride but I’m not as accepting, I’m competitive, I always want to see improvement, even if it’s slow. If you’ve read the main post on the site you’ll know that I caused my own problem with the driver at the backend of last season in many ways. However, I’m prepared to put in the work to get back what I’ve lost and add more speed to my arsenal. Afterall, speed training, which is what I’m undertaking, is essentially about raising your ceiling so that you can cruise at a higher level on course. In order to achieve this I’ve invested in The Stack System. Now, I didn’t do this on a whim, when I’m buying something, I make sure it’s going to perform how I’d expect and the results others have seen convinced me this is the route to take. The thing ...
