In the ballpark

One of the nice features of the stack app is that it understands you need rest between sessions, with a day off between each session scheduled if you want to stay at a 100% grit score (I always aim to stay at 100% as I want to get as many sessions in as possible). Anyway, I digress, the nice feature is that if you do a speed priming session prior to a round it will then move the session down the line by a further two days, giving your body the reprieve it needs.

In my case I did just that ahead of a competition round, in order that I could get loose and limber for the round, especially as I was already a little sore from pushing my body over the previous few days. That said, when it came due for my next session I was playing another competition on that day too. However, with the rest I'd had in between I decided to push on with training before heading out onto the course.

I wasn't at my absolute quickest with the 195g, albeit only 1mph short on the average, but I made up for that with more records on the other weights. A 102mph on the 95g step, which is 3mph quicker than my previous best and the same for the set, with a 101mph beating my previous 98mph was a pretty decent result.

I followed that up on the 80g with a 103mph, just stealing a march on my previous best, whilst the numbers began climbing on the 240g too, with a 93mph top speed and a set record of 91mph.

As part of my increased will to increase my club head speed and improve my game as a result, I have also signed up to Fit for Golf and will embark on routines from the app on my down days from stacking and playing. Genuinely the exercises I do prior to a stack session, which are included in the stack app, have already improved my mobility and general fitness massively but I want to see how far I can push things along with the help of FFG.

Let's keep pushing, 110 is on the horizon!!!

The journey so far...

Welcome to my blog, a place that I'll use to collect all of my thoughts and explain my golfing journey. So, let's start at the beginning - I'm Matt and I'm a golfaholic BUT whilst I'm hooked this time around (excuse the pun), the same can't be said for when I played golf in my formative years. And, to that end I believe I picked up my first golf club around the age of 7, when my Dad took the family to the driving range so he could practice his own game. I don't remember much about my golf in between then and my teenage years but I do know that I took lessons when I was around 12 and began playing a little too. The problem was, I liked it but I didn't love it. There were other things in my life that I felt deserved my time, including football and school and so I can't say that I ever really gave it my all. I can also confirm that club technology has improved dramatically in the twenty or so years since I last played, which was late in my teens, as bac...

Cruising speed

Stack session 14 was the last in phase 3 of the program and saw the use of 240g, 80g and 195g all at max intent. The two 90mph speeds either side of the 93 and 94mph swings in the 195g set didn't see me push the needle in terms of overall gains but, there were gains on the 240g and 80g sets. Not only was this visible in the reps, with a 88mph and 105mph respectively, the set averages were up to 87mph and 104mph, both of which were significant gains. I've noticed that if I become a little more mobile (small jumps up and down on the spot) as the rest period comes to a close before starting a new set I can get moving more quickly. This along with constantly trying to widen my backswing arc without swaying too much off centre seems to be providing a recipe for improvement. And, whilst I've said it before, the gains aren't just showing up in stack sessions, I'm definitely longer off the tee. Now, some of this comes down to course conditions improving but, most of it is...

Phasing Out

The last session in phase 3 was pretty successful with previous records continuing to be toppled, with a new high speed of 104mph on the 135g (previous fastest - 101mph), which also led to a jump from 98mph to 102mph as the set record. This was followed up by another 4mph jump from 107mph to 111mph on the 65g, which facilitated the set record jump from 106mph to 109mph. Then, on the 240g I eeked out another 1mph to take the set record to 93mph. It was all the 97's for the final set on the 195g, giving an eSpeed of 106mph and distance potential of 297 yards. The routine will change again as I enter phase 4 of the program but I doubt it'll be too far from where we are now and I'm looking forward to digging in and getting quicker still.
