Massive gains…

OK, I decided, given I knew I had a week where the golf I was playing was going to have an impact on my speed training, that I was going to post three session results in one go.

Sessions 11 and 12 also had to be completed after rounds, which I've now come to the conclusion doesn't work for me, or my body and so from now on I will try to avoid this method. However, that said, whilst the all important 195g wasn't where I'd like it to be (91mph overall / 277 yard distance potential) there were still some gains on the other weights, with a 99mph on the 95g step set in session 11, a 101mph on the 65g in the step set on the 12th and a new record of 87mph and set record of 85mph on the 235g in session 12.

You'll also note that I really pushed the boat out on the 7th, as I also did a speed priming session ahead of the round to try and get my body moving.

I also felt that whilst the headline number on the 195g wasn't moving the needle, my body was responding well to the other sets in those sessions and progress was being made, which seems to ring true...

Session 13 was chocked full of new, big, numbers, with a set record on the 80g step set of 10mph, a new record on the 60g of 107mph and a new record of 93mph and set record of 92mph on the 220g.

However, it was the 195g that really settled the debate, as I seemingly found a new gear, with a new record of 97mph, matched by a set record of 97mph, which is not only 3mph faster than before,

The journey so far...

Welcome to my blog, a place that I'll use to collect all of my thoughts and explain my golfing journey. So, let's start at the beginning - I'm Matt and I'm a golfaholic BUT whilst I'm hooked this time around (excuse the pun), the same can't be said for when I played golf in my formative years. And, to that end I believe I picked up my first golf club around the age of 7, when my Dad took the family to the driving range so he could practice his own game. I don't remember much about my golf in between then and my teenage years but I do know that I took lessons when I was around 12 and began playing a little too. The problem was, I liked it but I didn't love it. There were other things in my life that I felt deserved my time, including football and school and so I can't say that I ever really gave it my all. I can also confirm that club technology has improved dramatically in the twenty or so years since I last played, which was late in my teens, as bac...

Stacking and golfing

Yesterday I opted to pair my stack training with a round of golf, with the stack session done before heading out for 18. Now, this is something I'm probably going to have to evaluate that going forward as it does put my body under a lot of stress heading into the round, meaning I'll likely do it the other way around next time out to see the cause and effect. In terms of the stack session it was another good one and another where I found another 1mph, taking me up to 12mph overall in the first six sessions of the foundation program. I know I'm moving the needle too as I feel like I'm stretching various muscles in my body I'd never previously considered as a factor. The great thing about the stack app is the motivation it provides during the session too as you look to swing harder and faster with every backswing and follow through. The notification and auditory message you receive when beating a record, such as the set record, shown in the bottom left, just makes you ...

Slow, slow, fast

We've got two sessions to digest in this post, with my busy life schedule having impeded my progress a little in the early stages of May. Session 21 was the first in a new phase of the full speed spectrum program and I always find that first session puts me a little out of kilter, as you become so used to the routine in each phase. Nonetheless I did post a new record of 98mph on the 135g weight, although that really would be the highlight of that session, with my speed on the 195g pretty sub-par compared to where I had been. In reality I should have listened to my body and moonwalked right out of the session but I ploughed on regardless, which I hope isn't to the detriment of my improvement long term (it won't be). However, it did crystallise my thoughts on rest, which I heeded with session 22, as I waited until I felt like my back and ankle were in a better place. Six days on from session 21 and I was still feeling a little sore to be honest and my back issues had also l...
