Quick, quick, slow...

Decided it's probably best to start pairing some of my blog posts together, as you might have noticed, as progress is starting to become a little more difficult, at least on the 195g.

Furthermore, it's worth noting that both of these sessions were done after a round, as they were scheduled competitions and fell on the day of my training. Also, I've been wanting to try out different solutions to see how my body reacts in those situations but I think it's fair to say that doing speed training after 18 and 16 holes respectively didn't work out on this occasion.

Again, that's probably because I'm looking at the fact I haven't pushed the needle forward on the 195g but as you can see there's still plenty of infill happening with the other weights, as in session 9 I had new records on the 80g and 205g, whilst improving on my previous best set record on the 205g by 3mph.

Today was a similar story, with a new record of 91mph on the 225g and a new set record at 89mph, followed by a set record on the 105g (step) at 99mph.

So, as it stands I'm treading water a little on the 195g but improving elsewhere, which could change as we're going to transition into a new phase of the Full Speed Spectrum program in the next session, which see's the high weight max from set 3 switch places with the step set.

I think I'm also on a bit of plateau because I'm making some minor tweaks to my swing too, which obviously I'm also trying to incorporate with my stack training, so that might be slowing me down a hair but should hopefully help unlock some more speed in the coming weeks.

Let's keep moving it!..

The journey so far...

Welcome to my blog, a place that I'll use to collect all of my thoughts and explain my golfing journey. So, let's start at the beginning - I'm Matt and I'm a golfaholic BUT whilst I'm hooked this time around (excuse the pun), the same can't be said for when I played golf in my formative years. And, to that end I believe I picked up my first golf club around the age of 7, when my Dad took the family to the driving range so he could practice his own game. I don't remember much about my golf in between then and my teenage years but I do know that I took lessons when I was around 12 and began playing a little too. The problem was, I liked it but I didn't love it. There were other things in my life that I felt deserved my time, including football and school and so I can't say that I ever really gave it my all. I can also confirm that club technology has improved dramatically in the twenty or so years since I last played, which was late in my teens, as bac...

Hanging in there...

Not quite up there with the big ole 97mph that I recorded a few sessions ago but I'm still hanging on in there with the 195g with a 95mph average which equates to 290 yard distance potential. However, once again, perhaps it's not all about that driver equivalent number, rather it's about improving on the other weights too, which is precisely what I did in session 15. There was also a couple of other things to consider for this session too, as I started the day with a migraine, which is never good and when I got to the course, the bay I use was sopping wet, as we've had a lot of rain over the last few days. Anyway, I had my grippier wet weather shoes on so I tried to act like it wasn't going to bother me. Over to the records for the session and the first came with the 65g with the step movement and it was a huge gain on the previous best, which I set in session 12, with a 7mph improvement from 101mph to 107mph. The average has also jumped significantly, with a set ...

Absolutely Stacked

We all know that we’re slowing down as we’re getting older but as someone who took up golf again in their 40’s I already knew I wasn’t swinging as quickly as I could. Of course many accept this decline in speed and resultant loss in yardage in their stride but I’m not as accepting, I’m competitive, I always want to see improvement, even if it’s slow. If you’ve read the main post on the site you’ll know that I caused my own problem with the driver at the backend of last season in many ways. However, I’m prepared to put in the work to get back what I’ve lost and add more speed to my arsenal. Afterall, speed training, which is what I’m undertaking, is essentially about raising your ceiling so that you can cruise at a higher level on course. In order to achieve this I’ve invested in The Stack System. Now, I didn’t do this on a whim, when I’m buying something, I make sure it’s going to perform how I’d expect and the results others have seen convinced me this is the route to take. The thing ...
